To all who have have had Spinraza administered via the neural foramen, did you need a narcotic like fentanyl to manage the pain? Or was something more mild like lidocaine sufficient? My doctor said most patients are fine with lidocaine, but something stronger is also available. What is your experience?

I’ve been good with just lidocaine. Mid way through I’ve gotten more lidocaine, but really for me it wasn’t painful.  I know others who have gotten stronger meds or even twilight sedation. I guess it depends on you and your comfort level.

Yeah I’m sure it varies a lot. I was also wondering, about how long does the ordeal take?

The actual procedure itself for me takes 20 minutes as it’s gone really smoothly.  With transferring, positioning, prep and the mandatory lay flat time afterwards it’s closer to 2.5-3 hrs total.  Again it can vary on a case by case basis.
