I have slept with a BiPAP machine for the past 32 years, but for the first time recently, my machine died on me. You can read all about it in my latest column, but whew. That was scary. I was feeling really weak that night and desperately needed my BiPAP for some respite. Fortunately, my respiratory therapist from the DME company delivered a temporary one at 2 a.m.

She said that this has been happening often, which sounds pretty dangerous to me, especially for those who rely on ventilators 24/7.

Have any of your machines died on you– BiPAPs, feeding pumps, etc– when you needed them? If so, what have you done in that situation?

It is a dilemma! We invested in a generator earlier this year and are glad we did. I also use my BiPAP every night.

Generators are great. We have one, too, and it comes in handy often. Have you ever had a machine die on you? Not the battery but the machine itself, making it unusable.
