Hi Robin! I’m pretty sure we met at one of the virtual hangouts (did they stop doing those?). Welcome to the forums.

Looks like it tried to auto embed the link to that article and got a little janky. 🙂

Halsey! I see her in the Cure SMA Virtual Meetup sometimes. They should make her a moderator/facilitator on those honestly. 😄
I really enjoyed her article about how the pandemic opened the door to a lot of opportunities for people with SMA because of the shift to virtual…[Read more]

I’ve had this page open for a few days but I finally am accepting that I’m so boring as to not have any advice to confer. 😂😭 I basically just work all the time.

I’ve gotten to the point physically where there’s little I can do myself that isn’t a computer-related activity. That said I do try to use some tech for things like turning on lamps or space heaters.
I imagine if I had the JACO arm I’d opt for doing more things myself, as I was prone to doing that in years past. That said, I certainly would…[Read more]

That was a good read. I’ve definitely had similar experiences. Sometimes all the bs just gets to be too much. Best let it out then be pragmatic about improving your situation, which is what Kevin did. It’s not easy but it’s worth the effort.

This kind of scenario is the bane of my existence. Sorry you’re having to deal with that crap. 🙁

Voice Control is pretty powerful. It gives you the ability to perform most functions (including inputting your pin) with your voice. Also if you happen to use macOS you can call and text from your computer, if that helps.

Blake Watson replied to the topic Disconnect Between SMA Types in the forum Adults With SMA 4 months, 2 weeks ago
Yeah I agree. I think about the inaccuracy of the type system every time I mention my type. But I continue to use it because it’s the only shared vocabulary I know of to communicate SMA severeness. But I’d be down for some other language or terminology. I wouldn’t want conversation around SMA severeness to exclude anyone. I believe comparing fun…[Read more]

Hey Tracy, I put together a little page about my bed setup. Everyone is different so I don’t know how much it will help, but hopefully it will at least give you some good ideas: Bed Laptop Setup

I had a bit of a small win the other day.
I’m always on the lookout for small computer mice that are easy to click (ie, low “activation force”). For years I’ve been using a Logitech M535 Bluetooth mouse. The one I have is easy to click but, unfortunately, every one that I have ordered since has been too difficult for me to click. I’ve tried a b…[Read more]

Hey Anna, welcome to the forum! I’m 36, SMA type 2, living in the southern United States. I work remotely as a web developer. I only recently discovered SMA News Today but I too enjoy the columns a lot. There are a lot of cool peeps here that do all sorts of neat stuff. 😄

Blake Watson replied to the topic Finding Love in the forum Adults With SMA 4 months, 3 weeks ago
Yeah well said. This is what I am going for now. I’m trying to be more socially involved in communities and hobbies I’m interested in (like this one!) rather than force interaction on a traditional dating app. If I meet a special someone, cool. If not, at least it isn’t wasted time. I’m just done swiping. 😄

I read “small things” and my mind went “ALL THE. SMALL THINGS.” and now I’m here listening to blink-182. I count that as a small win.

Blake Watson replied to the topic Challenging Myself In Other Ways in the forum Adults With SMA 4 months, 3 weeks ago
I wouldn’t say I’m bad with money or anything but I would have trouble making it a whole month. For one thing, I have too many subscriptions. For example, I started the new year off by subscribing to Font of the Month Club, where you get emailed a new font (and its delightful backstory) every single month. 😅

Thanks for sharing. I also struggle with getting out and going places. So yeah, it’s tough to naturally meet people. It’s a shame I didn’t have the confidence I have now when I was surrounded by women in college. Not that I have game now or anything but now that I’m older, more mature, have a job, etc etc. Best of luck breaking out of the friend…[Read more]
