Oh, I never thought about it draining the battery. That’s a good point. My mom said yesterday that it was flashing while I was driving it which would make sense (even though it still doesn’t explain why). So the fact it blinks even when it’s off is slightly concerning. I don’t want to ruin my chair.

So bizarre. I wonder if the reps don’t even know what it means haha.

I’ve heard good things about these shows as well! And Bridgerton. I don’t know if I spelled that correctly haha, but I’ve read a lot of buzz about that show, too.

Alyssa Silva replied to the topic Vaccination Scheduled in the forum Coronavirus (COVID-19) and SMA 1 day, 1 hour ago
So happy to hear this! I go back and forth between wanting it, like, yesterday and being in no rush. I’m home anyway because of the regular cold and flu season, so in some way, I’d prefer to wait (not too long) and see how others do. Given my uniqueness (very small, underweight, weak, etc) I’m slightly hesitant about the idea of reacting to the v…[Read more]

Hey all. I have a question about my Permobil F3 and thought I’d ask here instead of calling the company I work with. It’s not a big deal— I’m just curious.
Every so often, a green light blinks in the back, sort of near the back right wheel, of my wheelchair for about 5-10 minutes. I haven’t noticed any rhyme or reason to it. The chair is off an…[Read more]

January is soul-sucking for me (pandemic or not). I’m not sure what it is, but every year around this time, the winter blues HIT, and I need a much overdue pick-me-up. What is everyone reading, watching, and/or listening to these days?
Right now, I’m watching Schitt’s Creek (thanks Kevin!) and am reading Dynasty, a biography on Robert Kraft…[Read more]

I am so happy to hear that! How exciting. (Who would have thought a shot would be exciting in 2021?!) My physician said the office isn’t equipped to store the vaccine yet and probably won’t be for a long time. I’m not sure where I’ll get it when it’s my turn.

Yes, same with my grandparents! Everything is so backward, and it seems as though no one knows what is going on. I’m also frustrated by the number of people who have received it and aren’t yet qualified in phase 1. This has happened quite a few times in RI simply because they know someone working in the clinics. I’m sure it’s happening in other s…[Read more]

I’m not too well versed with adaptive sports as an adult, but I did play adaptive soccer as a kid. I hated it! Haha but only because I learned I am the LEAST competitive person and that’s definitely NOT the quality you want in an athlete. I used to play goalie and would let the team score because I felt bad blocking them. I think I’ll stick to wa…[Read more]

I have to admit I’m a bit frustrated about my state’s vaccination plan. There isn’t much information readily available. I have absolutely no idea when it will be my turn, how I would even obtain such information, where I’d have to go, etc. The list goes on. Does the state you live in have better plans in place? Do you have the resources to obtain…[Read more]

Alyssa Silva replied to the topic The Dating Game in the forum SMA and Dating/Relationships 1 week ago
Kip, I don’t think that’s wrong at all. We all have our own personal preferences, and when it comes to dating and relationships, one size doesn’t fit all. I do think it’s a little unfair for others to box us in like that assuming because we’re disabled we have to date other disabled folks too. I’ve had people say that to me as well. It’s like t…[Read more]

I think you’re absolutely right Patrick. The media definitely has a heavy influence on sexuality, and it seems as though there isn’t a seat for us at the table. Thank you for sharing your story with us. It gives me hope! And I love that you and your partner were friends first. That’s the kind of situation I’m hoping for as well. Do you mind me…[Read more]

This has been one of the main reasons why I’m hesitant to make the switch as I have a truckload of GI issues. Thank you for being transparent here DeAnn and Kip. Let’s just say I have the opposite problem of diarrhea, motility is SO slow. I heard bananas can be a contributing factor, so I avoid them. I wonder if it would help you guys at all??

Alyssa Silva started the topic Going to a Chiropractor in the forum Adults With SMA 1 week, 1 day ago
Has anyone ever been to a chiropractor before? I’ve always gone back and forth about seeing one for my chronic ear infections and vertigo. The idea sounds promising, but I am so fragile and my body is uniquely, and unorthodoxy, shaped that I’m afraid a chiropractor would literally break me. I doubt they’re trained to treat people with severe disab…[Read more]

I think dating is a topic that’s not often talked about in the disability community, so I wanted to open up a conversation about it here.
Mainly, I would want to know why it is so difficult as a disabled woman/person to find love or even success in the dating game. Do you find this to be true? Is it just me and my disdain for awkward first d…[Read more]
