My wife and I are going on a cruise at the beginning of August with her sister and brother-in-law. It’s our first cruise for all of us. We’re excited, but also a little nervous about dealing with flying. I am looking forward to having a week being disconnected and sitting down with my kindle to finish some books that I’ve been meaning to finish for a while. Beyond that, just work, side work, and house projects.

This sounds awesome. I need to look into this more to see what the availability of it might be, and how well it would work for me. But anything that can help augment my physical abilities I’m all for.

It’s a really hard and tough situation. I run a side business just to pay for my morning help, and I have some amazing neighbors who help me into bed at night so my wife doesn’t have to be my caregiver (except in emergencies). I spent 10 years working for a place as a sort of techie jack-of-all-trades, and being known as the guy to bring a project to if you needed it done yesterday, my hard work was rarely rewarded, especially in the advancement/promotion department. I’m now at a much better company (though the bureaucracies of upper management are still dumb), it sometimes takes a little rocking of the boat and speaking up. I’d love to try and help you guys any way I can.

I would go again for sure. And while it wasn’t necessarily done in March, we finished paying for our cruise that we are going on later this year (we booked it in January). It’s a little stressful trying to figure out all the traveling arrangements, but we are really looking forward to the cruise. Now, if the FFA would hurry up and approve the wheelchair securement spots.

I know this post is older, but I thought I’d share.
My wife and I met 3 years ago via the dating app Hinge. We had both tried various dating apps and sites to little success. I happened to find her profile, and after 4 attempts to figure out what to message her, I settled on some humor with commenting on her profile photo where she was sitting in front of a field of tulips “Nobody knows I hid a dead body here, right?” When she got my comment, she laughed out loud and messaged me back. From there, we messaged back and forth a lot for 3 weeks before our first date. Fast forward, and we are celebrating our 2nd anniversary later this month.

She’s never seen it, and I have watched bits of the 1st-4th seasons. After that, we will probably dive into Monk. As for reading/listening to, I am currently listening to Brandon Sanderson’s Skyward series. I listen to that any chance I get. I’m also reading the English translation of the Japanese horror novel Parasite Eve (the story that predates the PS1 classic of the same name). If I am not doing one of those things, you can find me playing one of the Final Fantasy games on my phone or Switch.

MemberApril 24, 2025 at 5:01 pm in reply to: Name something nice you did for yourself in MarchWe’re sailing in August on Royal Caribbean. This is my first time going on a cruise. I definitely plan on taking lots of pictures, videos, and documenting it (I’m slowly starting a blog about life and raising a family despite my ability). I am a little nervous about flying though. I don’t like the idea of others handling my wheelchair as they store it in the cargo hold. I really wish the FAA would hurry up and approved the in-cabin wheelchair securement spots Delta Airlines has been working on.

Thanks for the reply. That is some good things to keep in mind. I haven’t flown since spring of 2003, and I did that trip with my manual chair. I’m going on a cruise in August.

MemberOctober 3, 2024 at 4:28 pm in reply to: What are you watching? Reading? Listening to?I am watching both shows on my Plex server. I ripped the DVDs for both shows and stream them from my Plex server. It’s like my own personal Netflix of my media.
As for playing on the Switch vs my phone, it really depends on what I am playing. With something like the classic Final Fantasy games, I prefer them on my phone, mostly because it is easier to take with me wherever. The Switch is not bad, though I do prefer the Lite variant. It’s lighter and easier to carry vs the standard. Plus, I don’t care if I play on the TV or not. I grew up playing on the GameBoy, DS, and PSP.
