31 Days of SMA ⁣⠀ Day Two: Traveling and SMA ⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ This is @wecarrykevan Story: ⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ Traveling is hard for everyone. Even the most rugged, independent, able-bodied dude must face the challenges of travel. Airplane seats are awkward, most TSA won’t respect anyone’s luggage, and traffic is stressful. Throw in a 400 lb wheelchair, a G-Tube, a ventilator, or simply a lack of trunk control, and travel can often seem downright impossible. ⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ But, my friends and I have learned over the years that it is possible! It might be difficult, and it might get uncomfortable or require sacrifice, but it’s possible with creativity and teamwork. We have carried ramps with us, and we have left my wheelchair behind entirely to hike around in a backpack. We have found certified straps for holding me upright on long flights, and we have repurposed those same straps to fit my needs more specifically. Time and time again, I step out of my safe home routine, and some might even say I flirt with danger by my choices of adventure; but my friends and I come together to think outside of our boxes and experience the world in ways none of us have before.⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ And the result is life enriched for all involved, which is beautiful, irreplaceable, and so very life-giving.
