How do you deal with SMA-related stress?
I recently read an NYT article about a simple way to put stress into perspective, and it made me think about life with SMA. Here were the three questions the author said to ask yourself when you’re feeling overwhelmed:
Is this permanent?
Is this affecting everything?
What part of this can I control?
Sometimes SMA-related challenges, whether it’s a health setback, insurance issue, equipment problem, or just a difficult day, can feel all-consuming in the moment. And the stress of it all can lead us to think this is beyond our control and will never get better.
Knowing how to manage the stressful moments that inevitably come into our lives makes all the difference.
So, I’m curious. Have you heard of these methods before? Do you find yourself focusing on what you can control, or are there other strategies that help you keep things in perspective when SMA feels especially overwhelming?
