Seated adaptive deadlift: Hip hinge, hamstring strength, and powerful pushes

Coach Damon V walks through the seated adaptive deadlift with Anna, showcasing how a simple hip hinge builds strength in the hamstrings, glutes, back, and core. Using either light weights or just body weight, this rare move highlights the importance of form, stability, and pushing through the feet for power.

What’s up, guys? Coach Damon V with Anna here. We’re about to show you guys another rare move. This time we have a seated adaptive deadlift.

All right? Very excited about this one. Anna’s gotten so strong over the years, so she’s going to demonstrate it for us.

So what I’m gonna do — I’m gonna take a light kettlebell or light weight. This one’s 5 pounds. And make sure my athlete gets it all the way — nice and tight. And again, this doesn’t have to be a weight or a kettlebell, it can be anything that you have around the house.

What I’m gonna do is — Anna’s going to lower down. Perfect. So this is a hinge, right? She’s hinging her hips. She’s got these under her feet and she’s going to push through her feet. Bring her back to the chair.

Go. Perfect job, Anna. Let’s get five of them.

Back down. She’s hinging, loading her hips, her back, her shoulders — and up.

Great, Anna. All you. Let’s go. Boom. Up. Nice. Three. Two more. Go. Great job, Anna. One more. Fast. Let’s go. Great job, Anna. That was super strong.

What we’re going to show you guys — let’s say you don’t quite feel ready for the weight yet or you’re just starting out. We’re just going to do a body weight hinge. All right? So no weight. It’s a hinge. We’re going to feel a stretch in the hamstrings, my hips and glutes are loaded, back’s loaded, and come up — backed into the chair. Perfect. Just like that.

See how fast she’s moving with that? That’s too light.

Let’s get five more. Good practice. Go. Perfect. Two, three. I love to see you pushing through your feet. Pushing through the feet means we’re loading the hips, the hamstrings, lower back. Look at those. Last one. Push, hard.

Great job, Anna. Give me some. You look amazing, my friend. I’m proud of you.
