A 10-year-old child born with spinal muscular atrophy is throwing a benefit concert in support of everyone living with this rare, genetic disease that causes progressive muscle wasting and mobility impairment. While SMA has been known to be fatal in infants, oftentimes causing death by the second year of life, Adyn Bucher is one of the few who is fighting against the odds.

This Saturday, November 1, 2014, Adyn and her family are inviting everyone to come to Jackie O’s for a rock concert for the benefit of non-profit charity, Adyn’s Dream. The concert will feature The D-Rays, a popular band from Athens, and Cleveland-based folk-rock quintet, Oldboy – both specially chosen by Adyn herself. During the show, raffle tickets for the Ohio State/Michigan football game at the end of the month will be available for purchase.

This event is the fruit of a special night last year, in 2013, when Adyn and her father attended an Old Crow Medicine Show in Nashville. Adyn and her father, Brian Bucher, were inspired to fuse Adyn’s love of music with their mission to help others like her and their families through hosting live music events and other fun community activities.

“She wants to be able to raise money for these kids who are living through the same kinds of experiences we’ve lived through. She wants to do this with live music because it’s played a great role in her life and going to shows is one of her favorite things in the world to do.” – Brian Bucher, Executive Director of Adyn’s Dream

The charity was founded last June, and has since then collected a number of donations and support for Adyn’s fellow SMA patients. The father-daughter tandem are planning to make an Adyn’s Dream annual music festival at Ohio University. Future attendees and supporters can expect a couple of this year’s Hocktoberfest performers to be included in future events’ lineups: Bombadil and The Shook Twins.

While this yearly music festival is an exciting venture, Brian Bucher is focusing more on this Saturday’s event, with high hopes of a great turn out for their charity. Adyn took to Facebook to invite all her followers to her first fundraiser.

To support Adyn and the fight against SMA, everyone is invited to rock out all night at Jackie O’s, on Saturday, November 1, 2014, at 10:00 p.m. For more information on the fundraiser and how else you can help out, visit the Adyn’s Dream website at www.adynsdream.org.
