Famous Pediatric Neurologist Plans Visit to See SMA Patients in Australia

One of Australia’s leading pediatric neurologists is embarking on a mission to visit spinal muscular atrophy patients throughout the country to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital. The funds will specifically benefit Melbourne’s Complex Movement Program which aims to provide research and care in one place where all the surgeons, scientists, and other healthcare professionals can converge.

According to a report on portnews.com.au, Professor Andrew Kornberg has already raised AUD $150,000 (US $114,000) for the charity. To reach his patients, Prof. Kornberg flies a single-engine plane around the country. He recently visited Finn Munro, a nine-year-old boy with SMA from Port Macquarie in New South Wales who he has been treating for some time.

Kornberg says that he hopes that children like Finn will soon have access to treatment that can really make a difference in their lives.
