  • Accessible hobbies for SMA?

I have to admit, whenever someone asks me about my hobbies, I struggle. Unlike non-disabled people who don’t have SMA, my options are pretty limited, and anything that’s a passion of mine somehow turns into a job or a side hustle. I mean, I’m a video game journalist who also posts about how she does makeup on TikTok. That’s gaming, writing, and makeup artistry that’s stopped feeling like it’s just for me some days. The only hobby I’ve really kept private is doll collecting.

But this got me thinking: if I’m struggling to find a hobby, other SMA patients must be too. Maybe we could all share what we’re into and inspire each other to pursue new accessible passions?

Also, do y’all think watching movies or listening to music counts as hobbies? I’ve heard they do for some people.

Those are good questions. I think anything you do for the pleasure of it, even if it has now become a source of income and less enjoyable, can be listed as a hobby. If I was asked that question, I would say I love to sit outside and listen to audiobooks, and I like listen to music, and watch the Green Bay Packers win football games.
