  • Does having SMA make people see you as the “healthcare advice” friend?

Note: I am not a medical professional, and no one should take medical advice without consulting a board-certified physician responsibly. That being said…

Has anyone here found themselves the designated “healthcare advice” friend in their friendships?

It’s like, after I’ve had all these firsthand experiences in hospitals, people expect that I have cures for all their ails. And even if they don’t ask, I will volunteer information. I once had to tell someone that drinking water helps to thin mucus. It was both hilarious and surprising to me. But I thought, “Surely other SMA patients have been in this situation?”

Let’s not forget that we are also attorneys, therapists, life coaches, career counselors, education consultants and advice givers in all areas of life’s drama… You name it- we do and know it all! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Tammi nailed it. I’m that friend.

Now I’m just waiting for my honorary degree from Harvard Medical School. 😆
