What’s the funniest question you’ve ever received?
It is officially SMA Awareness Month! This year I want to tell one of my favorite stories involving my life threatening disease: As a disabled person, I obviously receive the usual questions like “What’s wrong with you?”, “What happened?”, “Does it hurt?”, “How do you go to the bathroom?”, “Do you have to sleep in your wheelchair?”, and of course, “Can you have sex?”. But sometimes I receive the most random questions that I absolutely love. My favorite so far? “Can you still mosh?” Obviously, I received this one from one of my friends who is a metalhead like me back when I was still uploading YouTube videos to my Surviving Life channel. At the time, I was planning on uploading a video answering a bunch of questions about my life with SMA. My channel was very small still so I wasn’t able to ask my followers for some questions. Instead, I messaged my friend and asked her to send me a list of questions. Then I went to the living room to visit my older sister, my brother-in-law Andy, and my nieces. It had been a long time since I had seen them so my sister thought I still listened to One Direction. When I told her that I listen to heavy metal now, Andy said “Ooh do you listen to Korn?” I don’t remember how we went from that to moshing right there in the living room (with no music, by the way) – I just remember Andy teaching us how to mosh. And then after the visit was over, I went back to my room and read the list of questions that my friend sent me. Amongst the usual questions that I mentioned above, I saw the question “Can you still mosh?” And I just started laughing my butt off. I messaged her back: “Apparently yes.” 😂😂😂
I love this memory cuz Andy didn’t just teach me how to mosh. He also taught me that you can still be cool even if you are in a wheelchair. And now that I’m not afraid to be who I actually am, I finally have friends. Real friends. Not just acquaintances.
Anywho, Now I want to know what’s the craziest A question you have ever received As someone who has SMA?
