In the second episode of the SMA News Today podcast, Community Editor Kevin Schaefer interviews author Ben Mattlin. Mattlin is a Los Angeles-based writer living with SMA type 2.
Mattlin’s first book Miracle Boy Grows Up: How the Disability Rights Revolution Saved My Sanity is a memoir detailing everything from his childhood in New York to his college years at Harvard to his career, his marriage and his family life. His upcoming book In Sickness and in Health: Love, Disability and a Quest to Understand the Perils and Pleasures of Inter-abled Romance features a series of stories about various inter-abled couples who Mattlin has met.
In this interview, Mattlin discusses both of these books, his other writings, daily life and provides commentary on how disability is portrayed in mainstream media. For more information about his work and where to preorder In Sickness and in Health, please visit his website.
