Celebrating a Year on the Job with Gratitude
This week is my first work anniversary here at SMA News Today. It’s crazy to think that I’ve had this spectacular job for an entire year. There are so many things that I could tell you about this past year, but instead, I’d like to take some time to thank all of the people who helped me get to this moment.
Firstly, I want to extend a huge thanks to my amazing mom. She has always supported my passion for writing and continues to help me work on becoming the best writer — and person — I can be. I always ask for her thoughts and comments on my work before turning it in to be published. More often than not, she provides me with helpful insights that allow me to add new layers of depth and relatability to my writing. Whether it’s suggesting a stronger word or spotting details that I overlooked, my mom’s editing advice is always appreciated!
Another important thank-you goes to my dear friend Ryan Berhar. My interest in SMA News Today was initially sparked by reading Ryan’s column, “Refined By Fire.” When I decided it was time to pursue my own writing dream, he walked me (or rolled me?) through the steps of applying for this position.
Today, Ryan and I often find ourselves bouncing ideas off each other, critiquing each other’s writing, and just chatting about the latest news at Bionews Services, this website’s parent company. I’m incredibly grateful to have the support of such an awesome friend!
I also want to thank the rest of my wonderful colleagues at Bionews Services. Their kindness and support have been invaluable to me. When I was interviewed, my boss told me that the people here are more like a family. I quickly found that to be true. I immediately was embraced with open arms by people from around the world — people I now can’t imagine being without.
I am often overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support that everyone offers daily. They celebrate one another’s accomplishments and provide comfort during life’s trials. I am grateful to be part of this special family.
I also want to thank you, the reader. Maybe you’ve been reading since my first column, or perhaps you are joining for the first time. Whatever the case, you deserve a whole-hearted thank-you! None of this would be possible without those of you who read these columns.
A year ago, I started on this journey because I wanted to impact other people’s lives. I started sharing my perspective “From Where I Sit” hoping that it might challenge readers to see things in a different and more positive light. I pray that I have done that.
I am grateful for everyone who has played a part in my writing adventure. It took far more people than just me to reach this point. I could probably write a book if I listed each one, so even if I didn’t mention you here, please know that I appreciate you.
I don’t know what the next year will bring or what new people I will be blessed to cross paths with. I do know that I plan to share it all with you. I hope you’ll stick around and keep reading.
