July 16th through the 20th in the United States is National Disability Voter Registration Week (NDVRW). NDVRW is part of the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD)‘s REV UP Campaign, a nonpartisan initiative that focuses on voter registration, education, access, and engagement. NDVRW aims to increase the political power of disabled Americans. It also encourages the media and the electorate to recognize the disability community at the national, state, and grassroots levels.

There are many events occurring during NDVRW. To find an event near you, check out the State Resources and Events resource. You can also get involved through social media using the NDVRW Social Media Toolkit, which helps you spread the word about NDVRW and the power of the disability vote.

This year, AAPD is asking disabled activists and voters to post a commitment to voting in the upcoming elections. To participate, all you need to do is post a photo of yourself holding a sign that expresses your intention to vote. Templates can be found on AAPD’s website, and include places for you to personalize your sign. Once you’ve taken the photo, post it to Facebook and Twitter with the hashtags #REVUP and #DisabilityVote18. You can also tag AAPD in your post @DisabilityPowered on Facebook and @AAPD on Twitter.

The focus of this week’s campaign is voter registration. If you are a resident of a U.S. territory, you can register to vote at vote.gov. AAPD also offers several other resources, including guides that address issues important to the disability community; guides that address candidates’ views on those issues; guides on what to ask candidates in a forum setting; guides on accessibility that include information on troubleshooting a variety of voting barriers; and more. Thanks for sharing Brianna! I think it’s important to keep voters with disabilities in mind during election season, and this looks like a great resource.
