One of the shows I fell in love with over the summer is “The Pitt” — HBO Max’s new medical drama that showcases what the average 15-hour shift in an emergency room can look like. It’s so sensitively written, it really did remind me of being in the ER. Something about that comforts me, as I’ve written in my latest column.

If you have an “emotional support medical drama” yourself, I would love to hear what it is and why you love it. Those who aren’t super fond of medical dramas can participate in the conversation, too, by sharing shows you fell for in the summer or why you aren’t one for medical dramas — all I ask is that we all behave respectfully.

Besides “The Pitt,” I have to confess I’ve rewatched several episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy” over and over. 😅Even some of the more recent ones. Things may not feel the same as the early 2000s episodes, but I do enjoy the new surgical interns.

Have you watched Lenox Hill on Netflix? It was a docuseries that I loved during the pandemic. Also, I’ve heard St. Dennis Medical on Peacock is good too. However, I think it’s more comedy than drama.

St. Dennis is delightful, like Parks and Rec set in a hospital

I actually hadn’t watched any other medical dramas previously, but I also love The Pitt. While it’s not light escapism, the storytelling is superb and captivating.

Oh my gosh, I thought I was the only one! I LOVED The Pitt, and I was so confused about why such a stressful drama made me feel so cozy and comfortable. I’ve had mostly good experiences with hospitals, so my working hypothesis is that the medical realism made me feel like I was back in an environment where I could let other people take care of me.

Also, I love Mel so much!! The episode where she adapts to the needs of the autistic patient was superb.

I’m currently obsessed with The Pitt as so many of you are. They have a really good balance with the humanity of the medical staff and the crisis of the patients.

Brilliant Minds was great if a little formulaic.

New Amsterdam doubled down on what we want doctors to be. double down on what we want doctors to be.

And the classics: MASH, ER, House

Yeah, The Pitt was great. Also, love ER. I rewatched that one a few years back. I thought The Resident was decent as was The Good Doctor. House is great. Royal Pains is absolutely ridiculous but kind of funny. The ER style is probably my favorite. So yeah, The Pitt is right up there with it and feels like a modern take on it. Can’t wait for season two.
