Meet Chaz, a soon-to-be-published author living with SMA type 1. In fall 2022, Chaz is releasing his first novel which is super exciting. But, what’s more exciting is that the main character in the book has SMA!
It’s really interesting how Chaz explains his thought process behind developing his main character— how it’s a delicate balance between making the character relatable to most teenagers his age but also giving disability representation to SMA.
As many of us already know, this is something that lacks in the media. Whether it’s disability representation in everyday stories or the need to include more disabled actors to fill these roles, Chaz is aiming to rewrite the narrative with his upcoming book. You can read what he has to say here.
