Hi! My family is talking about the possibility of going on a cruise, and I wondered if anyone has experience with them and could give me an idea about how accessibility is! I know the ships have to be ADA compliant, but that doesn’t necessarily mean comfortable or without its challenges. If anyone could point me to any kind of disabled travel blogger that would be awesome too!

Hello! My family and I did a Disney cruise back in 2006. Granted, I was much younger then, but I had a great time. We are doing this again in 2027. I found it to be a very accessible experience. For one, there’s a lot to do on the ship, so I didn’t have to worry about travel or anything. As long as you have a room with the right accommodations, you should be good. But I would contact the cruise’s accessibility service department in advance.

That’s so good to hear! Thanks for sharing! Disney World really impressed me with how well trained their staff was on accessibility.

My wife and I went with her sister and brother in law on a Royal Caribbean Cruise last August for 5 days. It was very accessible. Best thing is to get an accessible cabin. My wife and I did a balcony cabin, and it had a lot of room. I also rented a patient lift so I didn’t have to bring mine along. And I purchased a transfer sling from Adapts (https://www.adapts.org/) for transferring on the plane, and it was a life saver and made the transferring really easy. I also had great service and luck flying with Delta Airlines. Also, while he doesn’t have SMA, Spencer with the YouTube channel “wheelie awesome adventures” does a lot of cruises as a quad, and has a lot of great tips and resources. That’s how I found out about the Adapts transfer sling.

You’re welcome. You can also ask me any questions you might have because I did a lot of research into it, including places to rent equipment, transport, etc.
