  • How Will AI Help The Disabled?

I received my first power wheelchair when I was in 5th grade (1981). Belt driven motors/wheels with tube tires, but I sure loved my new wheels. I’ve seen the advance wheelchair designs and technology subtly change over the years. Good but not great. I think AI really holds the potential to help aid us in our daily routines! A robot to fill a glass of water, reposition me in bed, learn my wants and needs. Will I live long enough to witness the era of AI? What would AI help you with?

A robot would be amazing, and I imagine it will be in the near future. I bet wheelchairs will get more advanced, too. If self-driving cars exist, I can see a self-driving wheelchair somehow being developed. There are already so many great advancements in technology thanks to AI. It’s exciting to see where we will go from here. I’m sure it’ll be wilder than my brain can even comprehend.

This is a great discussion and something to really think about, Kip. I hope others will weigh in, too.

We will absolutely see some real advancements in the next 5-10 years for sure, the CES 2025 exhibit in Las Vegas showed off a wheelchair collision avoidance system that was able to automatically navigate around a series of walls with the driver simply driving forward. I’m also following the advancements of Naqi Neural Earbuds to hopefully one day be able to use the computer and drive my wheelchair with just the smallest movements of my face. This is the real power of machine learning, https://youtu.be/NbhFMUzLc9k?si=4c4KxE3PQ-0AN0gC

WOW! Those earbuds are incredible! It is so amazing what technology and artificial intelligence can do these days. And I feel like it’s just the beginning, too. Was a timeline mentioned as to when this will be available?
