Oral Care
Posted by kip-troendle on June 27, 2024 at 10:19 amAs my hands grow weaker, I’m no longer able to hold my electric toothbrush. I’ve had my caregivers try helping brush, but I feel as if we’re not doing an adequate job. What do you do? Suggestions? I really would like to find a way to floss as well; if anyone has a trick! 😁

Hmmm, I’m not sure if I have any suggestions for you yet. But I’m just curious as to why you feel others aren’t doing an adequate job brushing your teeth?
For me, I can’t open my mouth wide, so it’s tough for people to get to my back teeth. I’ve been having others brush my teeth for years now.

Good question — I know we aren’t “hitting” areas especially towards the back, as I have limited opening as well. And I’m OCD with bad breath, and I know mine can be horrid at times. I use mouth wash, but it’s seems only temporary. I have searched online for floss ideas with small openings, but found little.

I have a toothbrush with a flosser attached. Not sure if they sell them in the US? Here is the link to purchase them but it is an Australian website. Have you thought about water flosses?

Hmm, similar to what Ellie is saying, have you tried a water pick? I haven’t, but I hear it works just as well as flossing. Also, I wonder if the nozzle will make it easier to get to those hard-to-reach places.

I haven’t tried the water pick, but am tempted! I envisioned water squirting all over the bathroom walls, but maybe that’s okay, too! 🙂

I bought one for my mom on Amazon Prime Day last year. That’s coming up again soon, so keep an eye out for a sale!
