  • What’s your favorite milestone in disability history?

We at BioNews have had (much needed) ongoing celebrations of milestones in disability history. I thought we should extend the party to you!

First, I’d highly recommend Patrick Moeschen’s latest column at Muscular Dystrophy News Today, one of SMA News Today’s sister sites. He provides a masterful, well-researched comparison of how disability rights and research continues to progress, even as our respected diseases do.

I’d also like to share a little bit more about a milestone I helped to push Singapore towards: that is, the government funding of access to Evrysdi.

I’ve been on Evrysdi for around nine months now. My progress on it has been a little slowed down because of my frequent hospitalizations, but I’ve still noticed huge improvements in my feeding, breathing, and stamina. I can actually eat an entire portion of food within an hour now! And most significantly, I’ve had random days where I can hold up my neck for a few seconds again.

So, do you have a favorite milestone of disability history? A figure you’d like to highlight? A personal milestone in your treatment? Do tell!

    I second what @patrick-lenihan said.

The ADA is also noteworthy here in the United States. Then, of course, the treatment advances in our community are quite remarkable. I’m so glad you have access to Evrysdi and it’s helping you! Did you have any side effects in the beginning?
