In this inspirational video shared by Stories Lived, 30-year-old Santosh Shriyan and filmmaker Abhijeet Devadiga set out to make their film I Am A Winner. The filmmakers hope to portray people with disabilities in a more positive light, to help them realize their own potential and to not be bound by perceived limitations.

Here are eight notable people who have spinal muscular atrophy.

Shriyan has spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) but he hasn’t let his disability dictate what he will and won’t achieve in life. If anything, when people tell him he can’t do something it makes him all the more determined to do it. He explains that he relishes the challenges life throws at him and encourages others to find the positives in each situation and use those to make them even stronger.

Filmaker Owen Kent represents the SMA community with his horror film Angels of Mercy.
