Maeve has spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), and when she’s too sick to attend class in person, the telepresence bot allows her to participate along with her peers, from the comfort of her own home.
Because Maeve still has the use of her hands, she able to use technology to complete school work. Like all children, Maeve loves to interact with people her own age, and the telepresence bot allows her to have conversations with her teachers and classmates and feel included. She can control the robot so it travels around the school and she can choose who she wants to talk to.
Originally designed to help professionals who work from home or remotely feel part of the office environment, the technology works just as well in schools. Now, pupils who are unable to attend in person can still get the unique experience of the classroom.
