Read this really interesting article in the NYT recently about a woman with SMA and her difficulties finding love. I like when she said, “But when I have never known someone to fall in love with me, it is easy to take pessimism as realism.”

I felt that. Having never actually been in love I feel similarly to what the author is saying. What may seem pessimistic to others is as real as it gets for me. Dating with a disability is hard. And I think we can all agree on that.

I didn’t read the article, but I do think the mindset on dating has evolved. Honestly it wasn’t something I even considered a possibility as a young adult. Now I see several young adults in relationships, even getting engaged and married. It’s refreshing to see. Maybe that pessimistic outlook is shifting.
