Adapting to Life Outside Our Home With SMA

I once heard a joke that a woman’s mind is like an Internet browser that has 1000 tabs open and running at once. I laughed at the time, but came to realize that if I didn’t actually feel like this before hearing the short acronym “SMA,” I most certainly do now.

I spend much of my time pre-planning and thinking of possible problems that we may run into because of the kids’ diagnoses. I think many other SMA parents do this as well. Prior to our lives with SMA, we didn’t realize just how inaccessible the world is to those who are differently-abled.

        Happy August, everyone!

I’m super excited to announce our latest initiative, 31 Days of SMA, that will run throughout the month. Every day, a different member of the SMA community will share their story and unique perspective on life with SMA. August is SMA Awareness Month, so this is a great way for members of the community to learn more about each other. It’s also for people outside the community to get a better understanding of how SMA affects our everyday lives.

The first post will be going up around noon today, so be sure to follow SMANT on Instagram to keep up with the initiative. Feel free to spread the word — we want as many people engaged as possible!
