Those looking for either full- or part-time employment might be interested in the Job Accommodation Network (JAN). JAN is a free, expert resource on workplace accommodations and disability employment issues. JAN employees are available for consultation via phone or Internet on a variety of topics, including the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and related legislature, self-employment, and entrepreneurship options for individuals with disabilities. JAN partners with workers and employees alike to offer practical solutions to accessibility issues. For more information on JAN, check out the organization’s outreach video here.

Each month, JAN hosts a training session via webcast. These training sessions start at 2:00 pm EST and are approximately an hour long. Webcasts are hosted via Internet using Adobe Acrobat Connect Professional, which allows attendees to view PowerPoint slides and an audio livestream of the presentation. Sessions address a variety of topics, including job accommodations, disability inclusion, assistive technology basics, third-party vendors and accommodations, executive functioning accommodations in self-employment, wearable technology, current events, ADA updates, and more.

As of October 2018, webcasts are scheduled through August 2019. November’s webcast will address the accommodation of mental health impairments; December’s webcast will address disability inclusion and ADA compliance during the hiring process. For the full list of upcoming webcasts, click here.

There are a limited number of spots available, so if you’re interested in attending, it’s important to register as soon as possible; you can register for several webcasts at the same time. Currently, registration is free for one login. However, several people can utilize a single login by viewing the webcast on one computer. To register, you’ll need to provide your name and email address. Registration confirmation will be sent via email, along with training materials and webcast login information.
