Ever experience post-hospitalization trauma?
Have you ever experienced post-hospitalization trauma?
I was recently getting into an elevator with a nurse who was taking me to a procedural room. She took me into the inpatient elevator for a faster ride, and bam. It hit me. The last time I was in that elevator was when I was fighting for my life two years ago.
I felt my heart start to race. My stomach got queasy. It was as if no time had passed at all, and I was right back to struggling to survive. My anxiety was high.
This isn’t the first time I’ve experienced post-hospitalization trauma from that particular stay. Though I received great care during that time, almost losing my life kind of messed me up.
Have you experienced something similar? How did you cope?
