I know these subjects are hot topics in the SMA community, and I would love to hear your experiences. I have tried CBD in the past, but I have never ingested THC. Once, a medication got me high, and I hated the feeling. So, I have been avoiding it since then. However, I am curious about topical lotions that have THC in them.

I would mainly use THC lotion and CBD oil for pain and anxiety, but I am interested to hear how it helps you!

If you are willing to share, what have your experiences been like?

I will leave a story in the comments about that one time I got high. 😂

Approximately 6 or 7 years ago, my doctor prescribed Marinol to help increase my appetite. This drug is a synthetic form of THC; however, I was told it could, in no way, get me high. So, I took it, and I went off to a meeting with an event planner who was helping me plan my nonprofit’s gala the following month.

While at the venue, I felt as though my entire body turned to dust. My arm went numb. My face went numb. And I felt like I was having an out-of-body experience. At the same time, I was trying to remain professional. It was… Quite a sight. I think I made an excuse that my sugar was dropping, and I had to leave. The minute I got out of there, I called my doctor to ask what the heck was happening. That’s when he chuckled and said I was probably high. So I went home, lay on my couch, stuffed my face with more food than I have ever eaten, and watched Adam Sandler movies. 😂 That feeling lasted hours. Never again lol.

I am new here and I have type III. I’m in my early 30’s. I do walk short distances, but have to use crutches because pretty much all my major joints are ruined. I have arthritis and a torn labrum in my hip confirmed by MRI and I’m pretty sure I have arthritis starting in my other major joints, but I’ve been told doctors cannot do anything for it. In the past I have sucked down NSAID’s like candy and I did try narcotics for a bit, but I was not a fan. They did not actually do anything to help the pain they just masked it for a few hours.

I have recently gotten into Cbd/thc gummies and learning about different products as my state made recreational legal two years ago and started officially selling last fall, but I will say I was a skeptic before. I have a degree in chemistry, so as someone with a scientific mind I don’t tend to believe claims that something is a cure all.

I personally find it to be a lifesaver. I feel like a changed person because I have actually been able to sleep properly for the first time in a decade plus. My mood is so much better when I am not sleep deprived and in pain constantly. I like low dose THC (5mg-10mg max) and as high a dose of CBD/ CBG as they have in the gummies. I take mine in the evening. I make sure I have everything done that I need done, use the restroom, then park it on the couch to watch TV, play on my phone, or crochet.

With 5mg I can still walk around if I’m careful, but I prefer not to. 10 mg I absolutely cannot walk around till it starts to wear off. In gummies they come in indica, stativa, and hybrid and I like to stick with hybrid. Hybrids are a good middle ground. They make you a little sleepy, but not overly so. My joints feel amazing and even when I wake up the next day I have some pain relief from the CBD or CBG still working. I’ve had straight THC gummies and I’m not a fan because they don’t help my joints.

I feel a bit tingly all over, relaxed, and giggly mostly when I take it. It takes about an hour for the gummies to work, then I feel it for about 4-5 hours after. When it is starting to wear off is when I head to bed and sleep like a baby. Before I would wake up hourly having to move because I was in pain. The main side effects I get are the munchies and dry mouth.

I’ve found a brand recently that I really like as it is women owned and they only use natural juices for their flavoring. The watermelon flavor is amazing. They also put THCv in their gummies that helps with dry mouth and getting the munchies. It does not stop it totally, but for me helps significantly to lessen the dry mouth. I think having dry mouth and the munchies as side effects is worth putting up with for me personally.

I’ve never had CBD products by itself or the kind sold online or in non-dispensary setting, so I cannot comment on that or creams.

Sorry for the long rant, but I hope it helps with a little insight.

Hey! No, please feel free to always vent away haha. This may be a silly question, but what’s the difference between CBD and CBG? Also, do the CBD gummies have THC in them? Or is it standalone? If it’s not from a local dispensary, I would love to know the brand as well!

The brand is called Goddess Growers. The dispensary where I go says they cannot keep it in stock, but I think their products all have THC. Their watermelon gummy is very good.

As far as I know CBD and CBG have similar properties. They are both cannabinoids. I don’t think CBG has been researched as much. I have had both and I really cannot the difference beside I am not as sore for awhile.

Hey Alyssa, thanks for sharing. I can’t remember the brand but I use a topical CBD lotion for pain and it’s amazing – truly nothing has helped like it. As far as gummies go, I bought some but I’ve nervous to try.

Are the gummies THC or CBD? If you ever remember the name of the lotion you use, please let me know!

I live in GA I don’t know where to get the CBD gummies? Can anyone please let me know where I can get some? I have SMA 4 and I’m 71 years old and I’m hurting so bad that I can’t sit down and I can’t sleep! I used to smoke pot and I never felt any pain works great for pain and sleep! But it’s illegal and I don’t want to get caught or have it in my system because of my pain meds the Dr will take me off of them if they see that I’m smoking pot again. I would love to use the CBD Gummies can anyone please help me with finding some here in GA? That would be AWESOME!

Hey Barry – I googled: “CBD gummies in Georgia” and most importantly, this was the first thing that came up: “Under the current Georgia CBD laws, the possession and use of CBD oil derived from the hemp plant, featuring no more than 0.3% THC, is legal for all adult residents. This includes several CBD products, such as oils, gummies, soft gels, and topicals.

Within that query, I also found a number of online dispensaries in Georgia, so I’d encourage you to use your favorite search engine for either local or online availability.
