Hello all. I wanted to address a couple of comments related to a recent Facebook post about AveXis. Specifically, we heard from several SMA parents who feel that this drug should be geared toward SMA adults as well as kids.

I cannot speak on behalf of the manufacturers of this treatment, as I strictly work for Bionews/SMA News Today, but as far as I know the drug is still in the clinical trials stage and is only available for young Type 1 patients, but there could be room for expansion in the future. Currently, Spinraza is the only treatment available for all SMA patients.

Regardless, I thought this would be a good place to further this discussion. We welcome any input from SMA parents, and I know something like this is frustrating to say the least. Nevertheless, the more feedback pharmaceutical companies receive from SMA parents, caregivers and patients, the better.

    What are your thoughts?
