Hi all! Just checking in with all of you today. With summer just a few short weeks away, I hope you all have something to look forward to, whether it’s a vacation or getting some extra vitamin D in your life. As for me, I’m just excited to get back to my summer office— a.k.a. my front porch. 🙂

How is everyone doing? Anything on your heart that you want to share?

I’ve recovered from COVID-19 physically. Recovering mentally though, I have a ways to go because of everything I went through. It was a nightmare. You can read about my experience here: https://smanewstoday.com/columns/navigating-my-experience-with-covid-19-hope-determination/

I was so worried about you, Ari! I’m glad you’re doing better, but man, that sounded like you had a rough go. And your mom, too. Here’s to a summer of good health. Hope you’re feeling better and better each day.

Thank you Alyssa! Feeling great today, so hopefully a period of good health sticks around for the summer, and even longer. I hope that for you as well!😃

I went through a rough three year battle with a pressure wound from 2020 to 2023 so I would really love to do something extra this summer. I don’t know if everyone feels like this but travel is just the worst. Flying is almost impossible, I have no issue riding in my car for 15 hours but apparently driving for 15 is pretty terrible so that’s a pretty hard sell too. Then there’s the hotel, it’s pretty terrifying showing up on the other side of the country, HOPING that the room they sold you is everything they said it was. I’ll probably (hopefully) lean on a couple of friends to take me on some adventures locally, but that’s probably about it.

If anyone has travel tips, let me know!

I know what you mean. Traveling is so difficult and exhausting for my family and me, but I love exploring new places. I don’t think I’ll have any big travel plans this summer, but I thought it’d be fun to do touristy things in my own state. There’s so much to do and explore, but I always do like the same five things haha. I also live in southern New England, where there are so many quaint beach towns within an hour of me. So I thought going somewhere like that could be fun, too.

Maybe you could create a summer bucket list with you and your friends?

No good tips for you. Have you ever taken a train? On the news I heard Amtrak now has a line that goes from the Twin Cities to Chicago. For a brief moment it sounded like fun. Then the logistical nightmare started building in my head. What about transportation when we got there? Have I booked the right accommodations? Can you rent the equipment I need? Too much to think about. If you’re more adventurous than I am it might be an option.
