One time, I was at a high school football game with my grandpa, and it started pouring. I mean pouring. We immediately  made our way back to the van, but it was a little ways away. To make matters worse, it turned out that my hand had become too cold to drive, so my grandpa had to drive me. We took brief shelter under the awning of the entrance to my school, and a man gave me his hat. It didn’t do me much good, but it was a nice gesture.

More recently, I had to make about a mile  “walk” from the Moda Center to the hotel in the rain after a blazer game. My parents had the van, but couldn’t find us. I actually mentioned this story in a column.

These are the only two times I can remember where I spent any length of time in the rain. My chair was fine in both cases.
