  • Stimulus Check Mix Up?

Hey all. I’m claimed as a dependent on my dad’s taxes but received a stimulus check this month. This is the first one I’ve gotten and I’m pretty sure it was a mistake? As a dependent, I shouldn’t be receiving a stimulus check… I think. At least that’s what impression I was under with the other 2.

Anybody having this issue as well? And do you have a solution?

I found this information for you. Congratulations!

The maximum amount for the third round of stimulus checks will be $1,400 for any eligible individual or $2,800 per eligible couple filing taxes jointly. Each eligible dependent — including adult dependents — also will qualify for a payment of $1,400. That means a family of four could receive as much as $5,600 in total.

I’ve heard others received one as well, so I think you’re good.

Wow thank you, Dennis!! I guess a follow-up question would be does this affect SSI? I’m currently over the $2000 asset limit with the stimulus and I’m afraid I’m going to get penalized. Really wishing I hadn’t put off getting an able account right now, so I could just put the $1400 in there.

Good for you, Alyssa!  I received a deposit right into my Direct Express debit card for the first two stimulus.  With this last one, my $1,400 was added into my parents account along with their stimulus.  Not sure why.  I would recommend cashing the check and spending it.. ummm, {wink, wink} at a casino.  Poof, all gone, can’t be traced, and it doesn’t count against your benefits.

Haha me in a casino with $1,400 sounds DANGEROUS!

Hi alyssa it does not count toward your SSI. I think you get like a year to spend it. But it will not count against your monthly income so you’re fine. Enjoy!
