KeymasterHappy Tuesday everyone!
Please check out the latest episode of the SMA News Today Podcast here. In this roundtable discussion, Michael and I talk about the latest research news in the SMA community, as well as some of our recent columns and forum posts.
In the news segment, we discuss two stories from the 2019 American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Annual Meeting, which took place in Philadelphia. The first story is about people with SMA types 2 and 3, who have been treated with Avexis’ gene therapy drug zolgensma during a clinical trial https://smanewstoday.com/2019/05/06/aanam-type-2-patients-taking-well-to-zolgensma-with-motor-milestones-and-no-safety-concerns/. The second story focuses on another experimental treatment called Risdiplam, which was developed by Roche and Genentech, in collaboration with PTC Therapeutics and the SMA Foundation https://smanewstoday.com/2019/05/09/aan2019-risdiplam-shows-promise-gene-therapy-sma-type-2-3/. We share our thoughts on these research updates, and talk about what it might mean for adults with SMA.
In the social content segment, we talk first about a forum post that I wrote about my new shower chair https://smanewstoday.com/forums/forums/topic/wheelable-shower-chair/. We also discuss two recent columns that were published on our main website. One is by Kala Godin https://smanewstoday.com/2019/05/07/chronic-migraines-medical-marijuana-pain-management/, and the other is an introductory column by Halsey Blocher https://smanewstoday.com/2019/04/26/perspective-worldview-circumstances-where-i-sit/..
We hope you all enjoy this episode, and we’d love to hear your thoughts on these topics. Join the discussion here in the forum. Thanks for listening, and have a great day.
