Bathroom Safety: Shower Chairs
Happy New Year! Hope 2019 is off to a great start for you!
I am seeking recommendations on finding a company to build a “custom-made” shower chair. We recently renovated our bathroom and my previous bathing system no longer works well. I have contacted several local providers and explored many medical equipment companies online, but all the shower chairs that I have found do not have the extra support I need for the arms and back–never realized most companies do not cater to some of the unique needs of SMA adults. I welcome your feedback on ideas for showering systems that have worked for you. -

I put a cushion on the seat to keep me comfortable, but it’s the perfect size and it comes apart easily for travel.

I’m going to be in the same boat of looking for a shower chair soon Patricia. Typically when I find a shower/commode chair that will work well enough we usually end up making our own modifications to it. We’ve added headrests, modified the backs etc. I’m not aware of any companies that custom build. Usually DME suppliers are willing to find something that will suit your needs. Sorry to hear you’re having such trouble.

I use a chair called a RAZ. It’s really clunky and not portable at all, but it works really well. You can customize it to your needs.
