I use a regular seatbelt that came with the wheelchair, and I only use it when I ride the bus. And also, there’s a padded siding on my right ribs that gives me some support.

It’s very difficult these days getting adequate care as I get older especially since covid’s epidemic 2022. There is a shortage of caregivers because they’re getting more by the government free services or other jobs are paying higher salaries. Family members are taking care of their immediately family members, friends are far and between, so therefore many of the caregivers that the agencies hire are lazy and doesn’t have patience nor the proper skills to be a ‘good’ caregiver /pca! There’s not much that we can do except pray, strive to work with whomever is available to work!

MemberOctober 20, 2021 at 9:46 am in reply to: Starting the Search for New CaregiversGood morning Kevin,
I know that life chances for everyone ,however it doesn’t make it easier to accept some random strangers into come to my live as caregivers to help us to do or in most cases to complete do my daily hygiene , cooking and cleaning …etc., I literally hate it when my good , caring caregivers have to leave for whatever reason, it sucks and it can be very stressful! But regardless of how much that I don’t like having to get use to different caregivers (mostly lazy insufficient ones) that’s part of my life. However , I strive to make the most of it by praying , staying positive and keeping busy. (Smiles) Side note I’ll like to possibly be interviewed on SMA Podcast.

But I don’t want anything that is painful or has too many dangerous side effects, if th that’s the case I would rather just deal with SMA. But I am open minded. Thank you for sharing.

I hate the term “medical unnecessarily” just because it’s not medical doesn’t mean it’s not greatly needed.

MemberOctober 20, 2020 at 7:50 am in reply to: Do You Use Consumer-Directed Community Supports (CDCS)?Good morning. I agree with you that being disabled and having to depend on others is quite a task itself every day of my life. I use an agency and the benefit of that is that they I have more of the responsibility of hiring and firing qualified caregivers although most of the time they aren’t qualified at all. It’s absolutely ridiculous of some of the type of people that they choose to administrate care. And though I’ve heard of cdcs also I was told that the client has the responsibility of panda payroll I’ve two of them their own caregivers and as well as administrator that care and I don’t know if I have the time or the patience to do all of that so I too would like to know more before I make the major adjusted change of changing into that services. Thank you for sharing this it is quite interesting to say the least. Have a great day.

<p style=”text-align: center;”>Hi DeAnn congratulations on getting your chair so quickly. It usually has taken me a couple of months to get my wheelchair. And although I enjoy getting a new chair, it can be very frustrating getting used to sitting in it. But hopefully that will Not be your case LOL

Because we would run each other nuts..lol ( or nutter..lol)) However whomever disagrees and believe the opposite go for it!! But I like my private time we’ll the little I have , being that I already have 24)7 care! I have to go in the room to get a break from them!!!

MemberMarch 18, 2019 at 11:55 am in reply to: Having your significant other as your caregiverThis is a very important topic for me, because someday I hope to get married. And I thought about this over and over again I would like to have additional caregivers ,but I know that my husband he would have to take a part in my caregiving! Because I believe that everything has to be balanced to be healthy. And I do know other couples that are married and caregivers to their spouses and that is fine, whatever works for that person, I do not judge that. So I have to get these links and probably will be back with more opinion. Smiles 💖

Hi I agree for that matter the media /or society in general wants to stereotype all of us in one category of not being inhumane! It’s good hear to successfully relationships stories like yours. My life is so busy that I don’t focus on having a romantic relationship though I’m human and I love men (smiles) I am not going to worry about it, if it happens it happens if not I’ll be ok! 🙂
