Most people here probably know this, but I love football as well. It’s honestly my favorite thing in the universe. I deal with so much every day, and football is the one thing that totally takes away all my hardships just for a short time.

It’s so ridiculous. Thank you for bringing more attention to it!

Short of telling the mom she’s not welcome at the party, I don’t see what you can do about it. I guess that’s your prerogative, but I think any resistance probably needs to come from your friend. Maybe you could suggest to her that she just sort of puts her foot down on this one.

My current chair, which I’ve had about two years, was denied a few times. It actually scared me pretty good, as my old chair was breaking down. It did get covered eventually, so my advice to people is to start the process early. That way all the insurance bs should be over with by the time you actually need a new chair. In terms of what you should do now, I don’t really have advice unfortunately. It seems to be just a painfully slow process these days.

  • The whole “Ron” story was probably the most memorable part of the book for me. He told it in an interesting way that was also funny. Sometimes if I hear a noise or something, I’ll say to my Gma “Maybe it’s Ron!”. Lol. I’ve never experienced any sort of home invasion. It’s something I was actually pretty scared of as a kid, but I decided it’s not worth worrying about.

It is quite interesting how differently everyone is affected. Every little thing varies from person to person. Even things that aren’t as noticeable like chewing and swallowing.

  • I’ve read it too. It was great. Maybe even better than LAMN.

I watched Stranger Things 3, Shooter S3, Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, Rick and Morty, and a bunch of Criminal Minds this summer. I’m also currently reading Logical Chess by Irving Chernev.

I will definitely let everyone know once I learn more.

I like the idea of focusing on what we can do, rather than what we can’t. It’s a constant battle for me. Sometimes SMA sort of mentally paralyzes me.

I’ve been feeling pretty stressed lately, because, to put it simply, it just never stops. SMA never leaves. There’s never any real relief. You can’t go on vacation and escape and forget about everything for a while. Watching sports is my greatest escape, and it’s summer, so that has something to do with why I’m feeling it a bit extra lately.  It’s like it’s all I can do just to tread water, and once I make a little progress, a title wave sweeps me away. It gets real discouraging at times, especially when I watch my two best friends get married and leave me behind to a certain extent. I get it. That’s how life works, but it’s not working that way for me. I know the advice is always “don’t compare yourself”, but how am I supposed to feel when this happens? I can tell you it’s brutal. Sorry, that sort of turned into a rant haha. Seemed like a good opportunity to vent a little.

I’m not even sure what that is, but frankly anything involving OTs has always annoyed me to death. I hate to say it, I know there are good ones, but they’re kind of out of touch in my experience.

They said it was a “duplicate”. They’ve said this about other medical equipment as well. Basically, as long as a piece of equipment still exists, regardless of its condition, they don’t want to pay for it.

Congrats! I was told that insurance is covering them about 50% of the time, which I was pleasantly surprised by. Good luck.

I definitely agree from a weather perspective. It’s just that that’s pretty much the only thing summer has going for it for me. I hate the cold, believe me, but that’s just one aspect of the seasons.

There are definitely positives and negatives to each season. Thanks for sharing!

I emailed and have not heard back yet. That’s still pretty pricey. I’d definitely do a demo for either this or JACO. You might even be able to try both. Hardly anyone can “afford” these devices, and insurance probably won’t cover them, but you can absolutely fundraise. I know it probably seems insurmountable, but it’s not. I raised $53,000 in two months, and Kevin did it as well.

Saniderm is basically plastic wrap that stays on the tattoo for 3-5 days. I’m definitely a big fan, because it doesn’t require any immediate care. After that I put aquaphor on it.

Did you use saniderm? It makes the healing process a lot easier

I think those of us with physical disabilities do tend to be more observant out of necessity. Good column.

Right. It doesn’t rain in Bend much. Maybe I can do that in Portland sometime though haha

My last two chairs have had six wheels. Two large ones in the middle, and two small sets in the front and back. This makes for great balance. My older chairs had some more wonky designs.
