Several people over the age of 25 have been approved, so I’ll definitely be bringing that up.
@DeAnn – All of the letters have come from CVS! Cigna is my primary but I get prescription drug insurance through CVS Pharmacy.

MemberDecember 9, 2020 at 2:50 pm in reply to: Columnist Writes About Disease ProgressionWow, thanks for mentioning birth control, y’all! I considered going on it to help with acne but decided to try Accutane instead. I’m going to talk to my PCP about it!

It’s wild how quickly things can change, isn’t it? ???? I scrapped my Friendsgiving plans the minute the cases started to rise. Hopefully next year!

Thanks for the comments, y’all! The test was super easy – they sent me a saliva kit in the mail. I just got a voicemail from the genetic specialist, so hopefully I’ll find out soon!

Ooh good to know! I actually got Rey a surgical suit and I think she likes it better than the cone!

I actually went through them and they weren’t much help. 🙁 They pretty much just gave me a number for a social worker, which was a dead end.

@Kelly and DeAnn – Finances, insurance, caregiving, life planning, etc. I’ve tried to take control, or even just learn what’s necessary, but my mom… likes to be in control, and just thinks it’s easier to do it herself, lol

MemberOctober 13, 2020 at 4:17 pm in reply to: Columnist Writes About Neurologist AppointmentOmg that’s SO frustrating! I saw Dr. Alan (Allan, maybe? not sure), who referred me to the pediatric side of the clinic at UMN. I’m waiting to hear back. The genetic specialist found my paperwork but I’m waiting on a callback from her as well.

Oof ???? Yeah, I have a lot of sinus pain/congestion, especially with my seasonal allergies. I’ve tried all sorts of meds, too, and none of them seem to help much. Sudafed is usually my go to.

As far as I know, no, they’re not related! Hypnagogic hallucinations affect a lot of people, similar to sleep apnea.

MemberFebruary 17, 2021 at 3:53 pm in reply to: Columnist Writes About Internalized Ableism and BelongingHey! Thanks for sharing. I can definitely see where you’re coming from – it can be frustrating when people invalidate your feelings by labeling it as an internalized ism. Personally, I believe isms manifest in vastly different ways, so it’s always important to prioritize what people think and believe about their own experiences. One of my favorite sayings I retained from grad school is we’re all experts on our own lives, which feels applicable here. Any sort of internalized ism requires nuance and the ability to respect other people’s point of view so I’m glad you brought it up!

MemberFebruary 17, 2021 at 3:33 pm in reply to: Disability Representation in TV’s “Lost”I’m so glad you feel represented by his story! That’s great. I do think it’s important to acknowledge that everyone has a different relationship with “disability,” which is what makes “disability representation” so difficult to pin down. Our stories are so diverse that it’s impossible to capture everything that disability is to people in a single storyline. Which is why I love talking about stories and understanding how they impact people in different ways – everyone’s reaction is valid. Thanks for sharing!

I do! I spoke with them and it looks like I’m not eligible for financial assistance, so we’re going the insurance route – again. I’ll keep you updated!

I honestly didn’t do much in terms of celebration – I’m pretty sure all I did was order a pie from one of my favorite restaurants ???? Is there a dessert you could make, or a movie you could watch with loved ones?
